Niera Tech Inc. built the OmNom Notes app. This service is provided by Niera Tech Inc. and is intended for use as is.
This policy explains and discloses how data is collected, used, and shared on OmNom Notes users through our website, applications, and connected products and services. By using these services you consent to the terms of this privacy policy.
Information Collection and Use
Barcode Scanning
The app may request permissions to access data from your camera sensor or storage. These permissions are needed if the user elects to use the barcode scanning, take-a-picture (of food), and data import/export features.
Online Search
An internet connection is required if the user elects to use the Open Food Facts and/or FoodData Central online databases. The former is a service provided by Open Food Facts, the latter is hosted by Niera Tech Inc. for OmNom Notes. Communication between the user and the online databases occurs when searching for products by scanning barcodes, using the text search features in the app, or when uploading product information to the Open Food Facts database.
Open Food Facts
Any product information submitted to the Open Food Facts database is accompanied by a universally unique identifier that is created and assigned to your phone when the app is installed on the phone. This identifier is to allow Open Food Facts to maintain, detect, and address technical issues and abuse of the Open Food Facts service. We encourage you to review the Open Food Facts terms of use and privacy policy.
FoodData Central on OmNom Notes
Any search requests submitted to the FoodData Central database hosted by Niera Tech Inc. are logged in rotating log files. This includes the request headers and arguments. This information is only used to maintain, detect, and address technical issues and abuse of the service.
Diagnostics
The app transmits anonymized diagnostics information (crash reports) to our server if an app crash occurs. If a crash occurs, the action that led to the crash (a “stacktrace”) is sent to us with general device information (e.g., the device brand, processor architecture, and android version) that may allow us to understand and reproduce the crash. This information will only be used to improve the functionality of OmNom Notes.
Analytics
It is impossibly difficult to know which features to focus our development on without analytics. Integrating analytics lets us know which features are most used and we can then allocate our resources towards improving those features first. The app integrates firebase analytics to gather this type of anonymous statistics. For example, we anonymously collect events like “the Progress screen loaded” without any personal information attached (i.e., without the contents of your Progress screen). By aggregating these events we are able to tell which features deserve our attention the most. This information will only be used to improve OmNom Notes and can be disabled during onboarding or from the app’s settings.
Google Play
The OmNom Notes Android app is distributed using the Google Play Services. Thus, we also encourage you to review the Google Play Services privacy policy.
App Store
The OmNom Notes iOS app is distributed using the App Store. Thus, we also encourage you to review the App Store privacy policy.
Third Parties
The OmNom Notes app uses a number of third-party libraries listed under our licensespage. We encourage you to review the terms of these third-party libraries.
We are not liable for any third party services.
Website Logs
The OmNom Notes website may log requests made to the website hosting server. This includes the requested URI, the user’s IP address, the date and time of the request, and other identifying information. These logs are used by us to maintain and improve our Service and to detect and address any technical issues and abuse of our service.
User Support
If you contact Niera Tech Inc. User Support, any personal data you may share with us is kept only for the purposes of researching the issue and contacting you about your case.
Data Retention
Your personal data is retained for as long as needed for the purposes set in this privacy policy. This data is also retained to comply with our legal obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our legal agreements and policies.
Security
The security of your data is important, but no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, therefore we do not guarantee its absolute security.
